Family Trees Series

Watercolor on Aquabord, Panel or Paper

I created this series while contemplating change. In particular, I was influenced by the recent deaths of both of my grandpas, who were wonderful men who loved their families very much. I was thinking of how families change and grow, and how we are influenced by those we love most, even after they leave us. The holes they leave cannot really be filled. My grandpas' influences on my life and on who I am are very real, and will continue to be a part of me. The trees in front represent me, or the viewer, growing up amongst such influences. We are not lone trees but are part of a whole forest or ecosystem. Even as an adult I sometimes feel like I am just a young sapling, leaning on others and growing in the shadows of the giants who have gone before.
